Summer is finally here! I have been keeping my self busy with my veggie garden, polish chickens, and iced coffee. Kyle Morton [Typhoon] & I just started recording songs for their upcoming EP that will be released by our good friend Devin Gallagher’s boutique record label [High Scores & Records]. It will be released to vinyl & mp3 formats later this summer. Matt Ross [Neighborhood Films] has already shot a music video for one of the songs on this EP titled “Kitchen Tiles.” We are recording in the bands new rental home in SE Portland. Its a wonderful space to work in and I really like the way this new house sounds. One major difference between the sessions now and the Hunger & Thirst sessions is the weather. When we were working on H&T it was cold, wet, and dark – which I think comes across when you listen to that album. Now it’s sunny and perfect outside, which allowing us to take frequent porch breaks & walks to New Seasons for lunch. I wonder if the sunlight that actually shines into our tracking space will have an effect on what we produce – I hope so. I’ll post some session photographs when I take some.
In other news, The Monarques and I have started pre-production on their upcoming LP. We have decided to track at The Map Room recording studio in early August. I’m super excited to work with this band! These songs are criminally good & they have the ability to get stuck in your head for days on end. Yesterday I helped them move a pool table into their living room, so I can imagine a lot of production meetings taking place over a game of billiards.
Hell yes Paul! I’m publishing a feature interview on High Scores and Records via Outsider Music Press tomorrow! We should do an interview about your recording projects soon!
